Where to look for the best cornhole bags

So where does one begin their hunt for the cornhole bag or bags that best fit their experience, budget, throwing style, board conditions, weather conditions, etc.  Who knew cornhole would become such a huge competitive sport that all of these factors would need consideration!?  If you love the game of cornhole already, or you are just getting started in the game, it is a great time to be on the hunt for bags.

Factors to consider when buying new Cornhole Bags

  • Experience: If you are brand new to the game, there are a couple of things to know about cornhole bags.  The majority of bags on the market these days are dual sided bags, meaning that one side of the cornhole bag is slow, while the other side of the bag is faster.  The variance between the speeds on different bags varies greatly, but just know that any professional bag available on the market now has different material on the fast side vs the slow side.  If you are an experienced player, then you already know if you like to throw the bag high and soft and let it run up the board meaning you will prefer a fast bag, or if you like to throw low, hard line drives, then you will likely want a slower bag.  So for you new players, you will need to figure out what your game style is at first and begin the selection process from there.  The fill used in each bags also determines how the bags behave when they hit the board, as round fill will cause the bags to bounce more, while a flatter style fill generally slide better.  Again, with experience you will begin to understand the dynamics of how your bag behaves when it lands on the boards.
  • Budget: Most professional cornhole bags on the market now range between $50-$150 for a set of 4 bags.  More expensive bags do not necessarily mean they are better or will go in the hole more, often times it is due to supply and demand.  One particular material used might be hard to get, or cost more from the suppliers, while another cornhole bag material might be readily available, and still perform amazing, so don't take that a more expensive bag is going to be the very best bag for you.
  • Throwing Style:  If you are the type of player that likes to land bags softly and "race" up the middle, then a fast, non bouncy bag is best for this type of player.  If you prefer to play a "messy" game and put up blocks while getting around other bags on the boards by throwing cut, roll or flop shots, then you will want to look for a bag that has a slower side usually consisting of a carpet material
  • Board/Weather Conditions:  Boards and the speeds of boards varies greatly.  This one is pretty easy, and will depend on the boards you play on most.  Slow Sticky Boards?  Well, you're likely going to want a bag on the faster side of the speed scale!  Super fast boards? Then you will likely want to grab a set of slow stickier side material bags most likely traditional carpet, not a hybrid carpet.  The weather can cause boards to severely slow down as well, depending on factors like the humidity, etc.  Or, if you are playing outside and the sun is beating down on the boards, they will speed up like ice!! This is why most players carry multiple sets of bags to them at tournaments.
